Ghanaian gospel musician, Cwesi Oteng has told New Patriotic Party flagbearer, Nana Akufo Addo he can distinguish his[Nana Addo’s] message of hope from other messages preached by his political opponents.
He said this when he called on Nana Addo at his private residence in Nima, Accra on Friday September 23, 2016 to formally inform him about his support for his candidature.
Mr. Oteng who has over a hundred thousand fans on social media, on September 10, 2016 declared to the world he has taken sides in Ghana’s political race and supports the three-time NPP presidential aspirant in the December 2016 general elections.
He tweeted: “I would like to show my support for Nana Akufo Addo and to fully endorse him to be our next POGH. I believe Ghana needs a breath of fresh air.”
The musician received a lot of backlash following the tweet.
He later explained his decision saying the “Better Ghana” he was promised under John Mahama is worse off.
He told Accra FM “as a Ghanaian citizen, I’ve studied the system and I’ve said that: ‘OK, if this is the Better Ghana, eight years is enough; I’m voting for the NPP.”
On his visit to Nana Addo Friday morning, Mr Oteng said he believes his leadership will be more beneficial to Ghanaians.
“Personally I believe that you have a certain leadership character that can help Ghana in a way” he told the former Attorney General.
He added it is obvious Nana Addo is being frank with Ghanaians in his promises and message.
“This is politics and people can say what they want, to confuse everyone but your life is open for everyone to see your contributions to this country even without [presidential authority] …”
