Exactly six years after one of Ghana’s statesmen, Prof. John Evans Atta Mills passed on, his ‘boy’, John Dramani Mahama has in a touching post, honored him, touting his legacy and the impact he made during his lifetime.

Prof. Mills died on the 24th of July 2012 at the 37 Military hospital in Accra, hours after announcing to Parliament that he was leaving for Nigeria. The ‘Asomdwehene’ who is said to have died from an acute cardiac arrest celebrated his 68th birthday on a low key with orphans in Accra just days before he died.

Former President John Mahama, remembering his predecessor described his demise as ‘the most earthshaking moment in Ghana’s political history”. His values of peace which he was known for were also highlighted by Mr. Mahama.

“You epitomized the principles of peace and treatment of all Ghanaians equally no matter their political affiliation. Those principles you represented, are even more relevant today than ever before” he stated.

“Fondly remembered”, Mahama added.

Meanwhile Ghanaians nationwide have taken to various social media platforms to mark the 6 years anniversary of the late President. ‘Asomdwehene’ as he was affectionately called, was admired by many for his calm nature and discipline.

John Mahama who was his Vice before the unfortunate incident was sworn in his place as President.
