Youth Loans Trust Scheme

The first Ghana Youth Business Trust Loan Scheme was launched in Accra today, 20 youths aged between 18 and 29 received funds totalling 52 million cedis to enable them set up their own businesses.

A Deputy Minister of Employment and Social Welfare Mr. Austin Gamey, in his inaugural address, deplored the lukewarm attitude of Ghanaians towards the informal sector. He appealed to established businesses to go to the aid of up and coming small-scale industries so that they can contribute towards the country's socio-economic devlopment.

Mr. Gamey said the money will make beneficiaries self-supporting while enabling them to contribute to the development of their communities.

A member of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Isaac Addy, said the Ghana Youth Business Trust which was born out of the Head of State Award Scheme is aimed at providing the youth a sound financial base and business acumen.
