Kpando (V/R), Dec. 8, GNA - The Dorke Farmers Group of Kpando and Lolonyo Farmers Association of Kpando Fesi, both under the Kpando District National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) were adjudged the best youth farmers groups at the District's Farmers Day celebration at Botoku.
Mr Edward Kofi Elikem Ahedor, District Coordinator of the NYEP also received a special award in recognition of his ability to mobilize, motivate and monitor the various groups in the Youth in Agriculture Programme module of the NYEP.
Mr Ahedor in an interview with the Ghana News Agency said the award to the two farming groups was in recognition of their good agronomic practices and commitment to the development of their communities.
He said Dorke Farmers Group cultivated thirty-two acres of sunflower, while Lolonyo Farmers Association cropped six acres of cowpea and four acres of sweet potato, adding that the award was clear sign of things to come in the District in the Youth in Agriculture Programme. Mr Ahedor attributed the success of the NYEP in the District to the District Chief Executive, who closely identified himself with the programme.
He urged the youth who have not yet registered to do so before the commencement of the major cropping season.
