Youth remove roadblock at Kyeremasu

Dormaa-Ahenkro, Jan. 5, GNA - The youth of Kyeremasu near Dormaa-Ahenkro have decided to remove the road barrier mounted at Kyeremasu on the Berekum/Dormaa Ahenkro road a month ago.

The youth mounted the roadblock following a lorry accident that killed a six-year-old boy on December 17, last year.

Mr Isaac Walter Ofosu, Assemblyman of the area was briefing the members of the Dormaa District Assembly on the incident at the assembly meeting at Dormaa-Ahenkro.

The youth had earlier made an appeal to the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) to construct speed ramps on the road but that was never done. He said the youth have now realized that it was impossible for the GHA to give in to their demands for the construction of speed ramps, hence the need to remove the barrier on the road.

Mr Ofosu appealed to the GHA to put up road signs to serve as warning to drivers and other road users to reduce accidents. Mr. Alex Kwasi Badu, also an Assemblyman, appealed to the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) to educate its members on the need to avoid speeding.

"It is believed that when these measures are put in place the fear of possible accidents due to careless driving would be minimized." he said.

Mr. Augustine Ampaabeng Kyeremeh, Presiding Member of the Assembly, was not happy with the behaviour put up by the youth during the incident.

He recalled how the youth nearly attacked Mr. Emmanuel Duku Dormaa District Chief Executive (DCE) when he made an attempt to resolve the problem.

The presiding member urged them to always respect those in authority and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
