Mrs Beatrice Serwaah Derkyi, Ejisu Municipal Chief Executive, has called on youth in the area to take advantage of the various initiatives introduced by government in the agricultural sector to uplift themselves from poverty.

She said the Planting for Food and Jobs, Youth in Agriculture, Planting for Exports and Rural Development, among others, are opportunities for the country's youth to join to improve on their socio-economic status.

Mrs Serwaah Serkyi, made the call at a durbar held to honour farmers in the district at Tikrom.

A total of sixteen farmers were honoured at the ceremony.

The overall Municipal Best Farmer award, went to Nana Kofi Kyei Boankra, the chief of Boankra.

He received a tricycle, citation, certificate and other farm inputs.

Mrs Serwaah Derkyi said the government would continue to introduce innovative strategies to make agriculture more attractive, especially to the youth to boost food production and create employment for all Ghanaians.

Nana Boankra expressed gratitude to government for introducing various interventions to make agriculture more attractive.

He also praised the Ministry of Agriculture for the professional guidance of its staff, especially extension officers, which are helping farmers to accept and adopt modern farming practices to improve on their yields.
