Zero crime rate at Atwima-Techiman

There was not a single reported case of crime, especially, armed robbery, in Atwima-Techiman and the nearby areas during the last Christmas season and the trend had continued till now.

Nana Antwi Agyei Brempong II, the Atwimahene, who made the disclosure at a public function, expressed delight at the positive development, hoping it would be sustained for a longer time.

According to him, the 2014 yuletide was the first time that the area, which is developing at a fast rate, did not witnessed reported cases of crime activities, notably, armed robbery.

The Atwimahene commended the police, particularly, DCOP Kofi Boakye, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, for working hard to tame criminals who in the past terrorized the people in the area.

Nana Brempong II was speaking during the official commissioning of a District Police Headquarters at Denchemuoso-Techiman which was massively attended by the people of the area, on Wednesday.

The chief, who spearheaded the construction of the edifice, was hopeful that the elevation of the police station in the community to district status would go a long way to boost security and further reduce crime.

DCOP Kofi Boakye sternly cautioned residents of Ashanti region to always abide by the laws of the land in order to stay away from trouble, stressing that the police would not spare anyone who breaks the law.

He described crime prevention as a shared responsibility between the police and the public, calling for formation of watchdog groups to augment the tireless efforts of the police in the various neighbourhoods to boost security saying his wish is to see the police getting closer to the public to reduce crime.

MP for Kwadaso, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto praised the Atwimahene for his passion in providing security in the area, pledging to purchase four motorbikes to support the patrol duties of the police at Atwima-Techiman.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Peter Narfi Mensah, in a speech read on his behalf noted that development can only take place when there is total security, showering praise on DCOP Kofi Boakye for uplifting the image of the police in the region.
