Grand daughter of Mandela Zoleka Mandela, has joined the FIA Foundation, and Amend Ghana to commission a new life-saving infrastructure for children at Oblogo cluster of schools in Accra, Ghana.
The Oblogo cluster of schools which is located at a major intersection where vehicles travel at a high speed in close proximity to pedestrians puts more than 90% of children who walk to and from school at high risk of road traffic injury.
In recent times a number of pupils at the Oblogo cluster of schools have been killed and injured in road traffic.
Speaking at event Zoleka Mandela, Ambassador for the Global Initiative for Child Health and Mobility, said: the new infrastructure is a life-saving project that clearly denotes that road traffic is preventable.
According to Zoleka Mandela, the project led by Amend NGO will help reduce injuries and save lives and that they want to see every single child in Ghanan given a safe journey to school which is entirely achievable.
The Executive Director of the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), Ing. May Obiri Yeboah in her address expressed her profound gratitude to Zoleka Mandela, FIA Foundation and Amend Ghana for this vital project to ensure that our children are safe on our roads.
The decision to improve town safety around Oblogo clusters of schools for which reason we are gathered here is a step in aright direction and that this intervention will help reduce if not entirely prevent children in this vicinity from been knocked down on the road she added.
Ing. Obiri Yeboah moreover cautioned the pupils of Oblogo cluster of schools to be very careful when crossing the roads.
The Municipal Cheif Executive Officer, Patrick Kumor was full of praise and commended Zoleka Mandela, FIA Foundation, and Amend Ghana for this great initiative.
Hon. Patrick used the opportunity to tell the foundation to extend the project to other institutions in the Municipality who also need to benefit from this great initiative because they have other important kids around the Municipality.
