Inner Cities and Zongo Development Minister, Dr Mustapha Hamid has warned the general public to desist from describing its youth as violent and lazy.
The negative tag, he believes is unfair and not representative of current happenings including government’s introduction of major developmental projects that seeks to create employment in the Community.
Addressing the media today January 29, 2019, Dr Hamid expressed unhappiness with the continued association of Zongo youth with criminality and said it was time to erase such perceptions from the minds of people.
According to him, it is troubling to know that people hide behind the youth to unleash terror and brutalize people in the community
The Zongo Minister went further to note that the citizens should desist from portraying the Zongo community as a “manufacture base” for thugs which are mostly used by mischievous politicians to perpetrate all forms of evil in the country.
"The inner cities and Zongo communities have had an unpleasant thug of violence or a place of confusion. It is in the minds of people that if one is looking for thugs and violent boys, Zongo is the right place to go and fetch them. President Akufo-Addo is determined to erase the notion that Zongo communities are the storehouse of supply of hooligans”. He established.
He added that government is determined in making sure Zongo inhabitants live dignified lives through constant education and awareness creation.
