Zoomlion leads the way to make nation clean

Kpando, 09, GNA - Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a waste management company on Tuesday embarked upon a nationwide clean-up exercise towards a successful 50th anniversary of Ghana's independence. The exercise is also to forestall any major disease outbreak before, during and after the celebrations.

Mr. Daniel Martey Kwame, a Programme Supervisor of the company told the Ghana News Agency in an interview during the exercise by the Kpando branch of the Company at Kpando that the exercise would be sustained as part of government's efforts to improve sanitation in the country under the Youth Employment Porgramme.

He said by the end of January this year, district offices, area and zonal support centres would be opened to instill the culture of cleanliness in the public.

The over 20 sanitary aids of the Company cleaned major streets in Kpando, public places, including markets and hospitals and de-silted choked gutters.

Mr Kwame said the idea is to keep every corner of the country clean during the celebrations and after.

Mr Kofi Edward Elikem Ahedor, Kpando District Coordinator of the National Youth Employment Programme said community protection agents would soon be deployed at vantage points to ensure that streets and gutters were not littered.

He said the project was not an end in itself but a means to an end and called on the public to support it for the benefit of all. Mr Aggrey Kuwornu, Kpando District Zoomlion Supervisor observed that the project had been smooth so far despite some initial problems, adding that the personnel were disciplined and that government had also remained regular with the payment of their allowances.
