Factors accounting for 'increased' enrollment.
1. 'Free' SHS policy
2. Elimination of cut-off point in admissions. Previously there was cut off BECE aggregate of 30 (I stand for correction on the figure). So students who would not have obtained admission for poor results are now admitted and counted as 'increased' enrollment.
3. Private Senior High Schools have been virtually collapsed and students who would have attended the private SHS are also being counted as part of the 'increased' enrollment.

Elimination of cut off point is not bad. It's better to educate a failed JHS school student up to the SHS school level than to leave them behind. Even though those students likely go to fail at the WASSCE, they have learned important things in life which can change their lives. Besides, not everyone who failed at the JHS is stupid. Several factors are responsible. I once advised a father whose son got a bad aggregate to enroll him at the SHS and this boy went on to pass the WASSCE and gain admission into the university and now doing good in life. Whether cut off or not, those who will pass will pass and those who will fail will. One more thing you should know is education is not only about grades. Some of your class mates who failed at SHS are now doing better than you even though you got excellent grades. There was something they learned despite their failures that you didn't learn. Mark Zuckerberg didn't do well at Havard, but it wasn't a waste of effort going their. His peers are still struggling to catch up with him till date.

It didn’t start today, but ever since their owners ( NDC) lost power in 2016, this website has tried everything possible to make the government of NPP and Akufo-Addo unpopular — through various schemes and subterfuges, campaign of calumny in the highest dimensions, but the more they try the more they fail.

This is going to cost them the 2024 election. How can you attribute a constant factor such as prospectus cost to the introduction of FSHS. You project from there and conclude that FSHS has increased cost to parents not considering the fact that the cost of prospectus would still have been incurred FSHS or not. How can you attribute food quality and shortage solely to the introduction of FSHS only. Since long food quality and shortage had been experienced. The FSHS Beneficiaries and their parents are looking at all the intentions from you and will advise themselves at the pools. Your posture is in one direction only that is to cancel it through your so called review policy.

Critiquing the analysis referencing the first diagram, the last years of both Kuffour and Mahama. Academic year in Ghana overlaps eg. 2010-2011. Mahama academic term was never 2017-2018. His term ended in 2017 7th January. It is an error in a academic exercise to use that time frame (2017-2018) for Mahama or else the margin of error will be above the accepted . Ideally, the time frame should be 2016-2017. Kindly check the data ghanweb .thanks.

The analysis on cost is flawed. The question is what caused the increase in cost when tuition, feeding, boarding, etc were free? It was the doing of parents because they believed NDC's propaganda and allowed themselves for some unscrupulous headmasters, teachers, schools to take advantage of them. So they wasted money on things like provisions, food, extra classes, etc. The very monies and items government told parents not to pay, they didn't listen. They paid all sorts of money to schools and headmaster and teachers illegally.
Who caused it? It is NDC, headmasters, teachers, and parents themselves. Some children also took advantage of the propaganda and lies from NDC and cubed their parents. I expected the analysis to capture these reasons as causes of the rise in cost.

Some of us we like the 'free for all' manner Free SHS was implemented. It was brilliant. Is it not in Ghana here that any thing meant for the poor ends up been hijacked by the rich and influential people? Examples are Cocoa scholarship, government scholarship, former SHS admission. I tell you if Free SHS had not been implemented 'free for all' the rich and influential people would have hijacked all the grade 'A' schools. It would have benefited the influential and the rich. Implementors of Free SHS are smart, intelligent and think deep. I remember the way students from poor home used to struggle to get admission when Free SHS was not available? The would go from school to school in search of admission. The headmaster were demanding for bribe before admission. Thanks to Free SHS.

Edu watch , you can do better next time ,Your data provided should give us more details , for example you are taking about the cost parents spent on each child forgetting prices of goods and services have been increased due to inflation and other factors , so comparing what one spent in 2016 won't be same in 2024, during the days , we pay fees , some students still goes for extra classes , still they fail in their final exams , other kids don't go but they pass extremely well. You should argue on the line that those who were not having FSHS at the time, did it helped us or not ? Majority of them end up on the street doing casual work , others too joined bad company and it becomes a major future problem , with FSHS at least we will produced better carpenter , marson , driver etc than JHS produced . with FSHS when someone is deceiving you , you can read in between the lines of lies and truth and it will.make life of politician very difficult to deceive the electorate .a half education is better than no education .

Ghanaians should wean themselves off political narcotics. Let's have a sensible debate about this. The free education is good but not feasible in the present form. The best is free day shs as done in advanced countries. Education should be localised. If you live in kumasi why do you want to attend school in Cape coast? The district assemblies should be entrusted to run them and make sure all schools are good for purpose. Where necessary transport should be provided to and from school, savings made should be used to improve teaching and learning facilities. This is what is done in even countries with better economies. Poor Ghana can't continue like this. After all all the teachers attend training so no matter where they teach have to give their pupils the best if not then we have a problem with supervision of teachers in Ghana. Some people in some positions in education are not fit for purpose should be sacked.
