The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has clarified the agency’s plan to develop two applications aimed at managing its job avenues.

In a detailed Facebook post on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, addressing concerns raised by Ghanaians, Basintale assured that the development of the apps, designed to connect employers and job seekers, would come at no cost to the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).

Explaining the need for two separate apps, he stated that one would specifically cater to artisans and skilled laborers, making it easier for them to find job opportunities.

He further noted that the apps would expand the job market beyond the local economy, facilitating seamless connections between job seekers and potential employers.

"The first app is purposely for artisans and skilled labor. Anyone searching for a plumber, carpenter, tailor, mason, electrician, etc., could easily connect with one. This will serve as a major exit plan for our already trained skilled labor force.

"This app will operate both locally and internationally through our Work Abroad Directorate, which will be launched in a few days. It is a fully developed app created through a Public-Private Partnership," he explained.

He further elaborated on the agency’s vision to use this initiative to create a significant number of jobs in the informal sector.

"The YEA’s contribution will be to provide skilled labor, both now and in the future, to the private developer. Through this initiative, more than 100,000 jobs will be created in the informal sector, both locally and internationally," he pointed out.

Malik Basintale, who also serves as the Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), added that the second app would be fully owned by the YEA as their official Job Center.

"The second app is our Job Center, fully owned by the YEA, designed to continuously connect job seekers with employers on a daily basis. It will be simple and easy to use, ensuring accessibility for anyone in Ghana, regardless of IT expertise.

"Note: Both apps will come at NO COST to the YEA," he emphasised.

Malik Basintale’s response follows criticism from some social media users who argue that the initiative is unnecessary, given the existence of similar platforms that already serve the same purpose.
