The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has disclosed that President John Dramani Mahama has not made any employments of civil servants since assuming office at the presidency.
According to him, all workers currently at the presidency are staff employed under previous governments, which they inherited, and there have been no new appointments made to increase the numbers.
The minister made this known on Thursday, March 13, 2025, during an address to the public to set the records on budgetary allocations made to the Office of the President and Office of Government Machinery.
“… Let me add that President Mahama has not employed a single civil servant in addition to what he came to meet,” he clarified.
The Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese MP refuted claims that the president had employed more staff, thereby increasing the size of his government.
He explained that the civil servants currently at the presidency were transferred from ministries that were either scrapped or merged, reducing the total number of ministries from 30 to 23 under President Mahama.
Kwakye Ofosu added that as a result of this reduction, staff from the affected ministries were reassigned and moved to the Office of the President for budgetary purposes, as these staff members need to be accounted for and receive their salaries.
“Because President Mahama reduced the number of ministries from 30 to 23, some agencies that used to operate under the collapsed ministries have been moved to the Office of the President for budgetary purposes. Because when the budget is being prepared, the staff of those agencies have to be accounted for,” he explained.
