It is a simple thing to know. The black pigment in the skin of the black man is meant to prevent too much sunshine from entering the skin. If you go to stay in a whiteman's country where there is low sunshine, you further reduce the amount of sunshine entering your skin preventing you from manufacturing enough Vitamin D3 for Calcium absorption. At a certain age where Calcium absorption generally slows down in the body, the lining of the kidney is the first victim. Secondly, people of West Africa are very Conservative when it comes to diet. They always avoid fresh coniferous foods in European Countries where they are domiciled claiming that they are
not goats to be chewing grass.. These fresh coniferous foods contain high amount of Vitamin K which also aid the absorption of calcium.

Advice to Ghanaweb:
Your reporting on this is insufficient, misleading and bad. What is this gene and why are blacks, particularly, people from West Africa more predisposed and, therefore, at risk of it's effects? Do we have historical evidence of black people from West Africa suffering proportionately more than other groups the disease? What is the genetic link between people from West Africa and the "diaspora" as compared to others diasporans with ancestral links to Southeast Africa where equally more slave were shipped to the Americas?
If you didn't have enough understanding of the research findings , you should have asked the investigators to help you.

@Che, every research has scope, there is always the need for further research by another group. There is no single research findings that answers every relevant question. Every scientific research is limited in many ways and time is the only factor that brings out the truth. Besides, time can also lead to repeated research that may debunk these current findings. At the onset of COVID 19, it was predicted that Africa will suffer the most as we don’t have the means to combat diseases but that information happened to be inaccurate as time allowed the facts to show for all to see.

A few weeks ago, there were reports in leading international newspapers and websites about some people with pseudo-scientific arguments calling for a ban on Seed Oils , mainly obtained from plants such as olive, canola, sunflower, avocado, etc. Although scientifically proven as superior to rendered animal fats used in cooking, online information with false claims are confusing many. Renowned Ghanaian Pathologist Prof.Akosah joined the wrong side without verification and worse, presented a position as if he were the one making a discovery about the cooking oils. While everyone is free to discuss a scientific or research topic, credit must not be stolen.
The same goes for Dr. Dwomoa Adu and Prof. Boima: the link between people of West African origin and a type of kidney impairment was established by several researchers and academics well over 25 years ago. It is proper that credit is given to academics who made the groundbreaking discovery connecting the APOL1 gene (or it's double attachment) to mostly West Africans and their later generations in North America and the Caribbean through the Atlantic Passage. East Africans, notably Ethiopians, do not have this genetic mutation. Please give credit to Tzur, Rosset, Shemer et al; Gruzel-Davila, Wasser et al and their brilliant teams that made this known to the world close to three decades ago. Thank you. ZB.

Israeli Scientists worked on the genome, identified Apol1 as a soft spot for Kidney Disease in people of West African Ethnicity and first published this finding in 2010.

Don't believe this.I have never head of this professor any where. He cannot be an African to say such a stupid thing. They know they are feeding us with poisons in our foods, medicines, and drinks which now mostly come from them. If we are sensible, we will work to wean ourselves from depending on the white man. They are inherently evil people.
