  FAVOURITISM NOW A MEASURE OF PROMOTION IN GHANA ARMY, SOUTHERN COMMAND - KPESHIE
  It has come to stay for some time now that troops of Ghana Army other Ranks at Headquarters Southern Command have no say to promotional problems ,though there are laydown procedures.
  Instead of these procedures:
  ? Number of years in service
  ? Number of years in rank
  ? Courses attended
  ? Performance at service
  ? Recommendations and many more
  Morale of troops has reduced drastically due to a massive favouritism, tribalism, nepotism and “whom you know bases” upon which promotions are done for the past three years to date at the Headquarters Southern Command, Kpeshie Camp.
  By the rules, most soldiers are aware of promotional requirements and will strive very hard to fall within the range in order to be promoted in any way or other.
  Ranks from private soldier to corporal, sergeant to master warrant officeretc., are based on seniority( to be specific), but the unfortunate is that most promotions are now painfully done in a way that is slowly killing troops now through unwanted hypertension (BP) by research.
  Can you imagine a soldier who is qualified for the next rank knowing very well by the standards is only bypassed by the junior with flimsy fabricated excuses of late? It is clear and well known that throughout the entire service some soldiers must be rewarded. Course mates and some leaders of the Top Hierarchy are really veryaware that these soldiers must be promoted.
  Most of these juniors that are promoted over their seniors are families, body guards, drivers, or personal aids to some of the BIG CUTS at the expense of the seniors. The senior either has no cause to complain but to keep it within dishearteningly because they only want to remain loyal to the service and mother Ghana or have nobody to talk on their behalf when it comes to the decision to who is to be promoted by merit.
  What is even more serious to these is that promotions are done by a board comprising of the various departmental heads but what do we see today? They are ignored and can’t be part of decision making.
  Even the departmental heads that have to take matters up, are now reluctant to at least explain or confront those affected leaving the problems unsolved, compiling the long list of the “not- promoted dimoralized soldiers”.
  What is more painful is that these so – called promoted are not the real men that deserve the promotions on the ground, talking of the known procedures. Meanwhile, most soldiers know each ones caliber in terms of performances at the various levels of the theathre throughout/ across board. Soldiers know when one is given a new appointment distinctively by merit and that is the known culture that is cherished.
  Of late a professional soldier must either become a rumor monger “KONKONSA” to be called a good soldier not by merit. He must be the link between the “Big Cut” to destroy others to get favour for VIP or special operations i.e.; UN PEACEKEEPING OPERATIONS from the BIG CUTS.
  As a result, there is no more esprit de corps in the camp headquarters. Some few ones became victims and were posted to different units outside command. More are even in the pipeline to be posted out.
  Promotion of some of these undue soldiers even if done amidst the qualified ones is not painful than to isolate them and promote only these few “eye–service” soldiers raises the eyebrow.Annoyingly the standards are just falling drastically and some big cuts are blaming it on the innocent few sub -leaders for incompetence and indiscipline.The more serious aspect is that those who by one way or the other fabricate stories about their fellow soldiers just to destroy their reputations and images are the very lazy and idle ones that are opportunists, greedy and selfish failures who jump from a MASTER to another shamelessly.
  Whiles others are straggling to make life bearable in all spheres, they are busy snoozing nose and ears to hear something and report without thorough investigations to find out the truth before reporting so as to get favour of promotion and operations to go which is very dangerous to the entire Army and society.
  Due to that everybody under command working in camp headquarters small or big, has now turned “MUMU” in order not to be a victim including wives who don’t want to be part of any communal activities any longer as it used to be, to save their husbands from being posted unexpectedly aside the pain of being not promoted.
  Some soldiers, are resorting to resignation from the service in order to save their reputation instead of being disgraced in this dynamic service simply because they can no longer wait to see even those they were promoted before them (juniors) keep on bypassing them(seniors) without a reason of superiority and powers that be.
  The question is (1) how do we destroy our own force in such inhumane manner and expect soldiers to work together to protect and defend the nation when the truth and the right thing are very difficult to work with? (2)Do we need a force that is one irrespective of tribe, nepotism, favoritism, discrimination and rumor mongering among the lot to destroy us? (1) If the right guys are not promoted to take up the mantle, who will teach the very young ones the right thing when those illegally/unduly promoted do not follow the chain and the trend to learn the culture of the job. Unfortunately, most of these BEST KOKONSA SOLDIERS are not always with the majority let alone in position to impact knowledge into the rest that are ready to learn the job. They always want to be by the touchline players with their diabolic activities that benefit them alone. Why on earth must human being so greedy and selfish to that extend? Let us not forget that we only have one Ghana and anything that affect soldiers affect the nation as far as defense and protection is concerned.
  If what is good for the goods must be good for the gander then the authorities must please look into the matter and solve the problem before it is too late for all in order to eliminate hatred among soldiers and their family. Command must boost and recapture the morale of troops high through equal right and justice to promote togetherness. If senior is always so then the right thing must be done. Ghana is for us all and we belong to the same family. Stop the discrimination and promote those who are genuinely due for promotion. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! NO SMOKE WITHOUT FIRE!!!!!
