  Quite true. Every little bit helps, but our varsity researchers are usually inundated with teaching responsibilities, especially considering the very high student-lecturer ratio.

  Quite true. Every little bit helps, but our varsity researchers are usually inundated with teaching responsibilities, especially considering the very high student-lecturer ratio.
  
  The bulk of funding should rather go to CSIR, the nation's full-time research establishment.
  
  Standalone research institutions, like America's DARPA which has been a great leader for technological breakthroughs (like the internet) over the years, have the unsurpassed advantage of not being distracted by having to educate students.
  
  A well-funded CSIR would also enable better collaboration with UCC researchers.

  We need first things first. The technical base must be well established. I know of a professor of fisheries who is always dissecting fish and researching on their internal organs and always coming out with a lot of publications which are hailed within and outside the country yet his numerous students come out jobless. I have always advised that technicians should be employed to partner this professor so that they can train his students on how to raise fish and formulate fish feeds to make his students a bit functional when they leave school but he will not listen. Those calling for more resources into research don't know what they are saying. If we produce more activists, technicians and technologists in the productive sector of our economy, demand for research output will be high since people will always look for effective ways of doing things and so will not bother paying high prices for such information. This is more scientific than the lame approach espoused by this useless professor called Aryetey since his suggestion here will only produce plenty research work that will only gather dusts on the shelves.

  A University without research is not fully grown. The heart of a university is research. How many publications lecturers and graduate students(Masters and PHD)are able to come out each year? Universities must be autonomous and have funds to run the schools. They should not depend on the government for funds. Is a big shame to them. They are too old to be a reliability on the government. Ghana universities have been sleeping far too long. Primary, Junior and senior schools depend on government and giant universities also depend on the government.Do more researches and sell your academic works to fund the universities.Sustainability of universities and grading depend on the Vice-chancellors. The VCs must wake-up and find means of funding the universities. Thank you.
