New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh says he is outraged by the holier than thou attitude of former President Jerry Rawlings.
He noted that Mr. Rawlings’ penchant for accusing his successor, ex-President Kufuor as corrupt is a typical example of the kettle calling the pot black.
Matthew Opoku Prempeh was speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the regional camp of the International Youth Fellowship at the Adidome Senior High School, the former president described Mr. Kufuor as an “autocratic thief”.
Mr. Rawlings claimed his successor in his eight years in government presided over massive corruption in the country.
But in a riposte, Matthew Opoku Prempeh said Jerry Rawlings has no moral right to accuse another person of corruption when in fact the canker was prevalent in his administration.
He intimated that under Mr. Rawlings’ 19-year rule, there was no Auditor General’s report pertaining to expenditure of his government, and therefore cannot accuse Kufuor of what he [Rawlings] is guilty of.
“He bought state property for his wife, sent his children to expensive schools abroad and failed to be accountable to Ghanaians during his 19 years rule; and yet Rawlings sees everyone as corrupt?” he quizzed.
Commenting on Mr. Rawlings’ human right record, the Manhyia South MP contended that the regime was characterised by the worst form of human right abuses in Ghana’s history.
He cited the brutal murder of the three High Court Judges, beating of women at public places under the guise of eradicating corruption during the PNDC era as some of the atrocities that happened under the Rawlings regime.
Matthew Opoku Prempeh warned if Jerry Rawlings is not called to order, members of the NPP would be forced to open the Pandora box.
