Proposed world hypertension day programme
nestle ghana ltd

Making life easier while keeping you healthy!

MAY, 2014

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Moms’ Health Club is a leader in organizing innovative Corporate Wellness Programmes and to mark World Hypertension Day on May 17th 2014, we look forward to improving the knowledge and practices of Nestle staff in Hypertension. As has been our practice since 2012 our programmes do not focus on a one-day phenomenon but we place emphasis on also empowering a core group of staff who will be able to sustain the momentum. We are also always available to offer support.

Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) as we know is a chronic disease that in addition to reducing productivity, tends to increase the health care costs of individuals, their companies and the nation as a whole. The danger about Hypertension is that it is a SILENT KILLER; so one may feel absolutely perfect when in fact severe organ damage may be ongoing. The only way to know if you have Hypertension is TO CHECK YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE. This year once again the theme for the day is “KNOW YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE”

We propose the following:
1. Health education and awareness creation of Hypertension with appropriate tips on exercise and dietary intervention.
2. Ensuring all Nestle Staff in selected locations Check their Blood Pressure by Saturday 17th May. Those in other locations should also be encouraged to do same by mid June.
3. Training of Hypertension Peer Educators
a. Involves training selected staff in detail so that they can continuously influence their peers year round.
4. Hypertension Interdepartmental Quiz Competition
a. A lot of hypertension educational materials will be made available and we encourage departments to form teams to take part in this educational quiz.
5. Hypertension Branding – Posters and Daily educational tips on Hypertension

6. Optional – Taking part in our Corporate Health Walk on 24th May to round up activities of the Hypertension Awareness of our clients

We believe that this programme if properly carried out will place Nestle Ghana Ltd shoulders above its counterparts in the fight against Hypertension.

PROGRAMME DETAIL
The aim of this programme is to equip staff with critical information on HYPERTENSION so that they can protect themselves as well as educate others, which will be in line with the global goal of reaching many people.

We suggest that Nestle Ghana goes RED on the week prior to after May 17th. Staff should be encouraged to wear RED and portions of the building(s) could be draped in RED as a reminder to all.

1. Health education and awareness creation of Hypertension with appropriate tips on exercise and dietary intervention. Appropriate exercises and dietary intervention will be discussed.
a. Topic;” HYPERTENSION – BEYOND KNOWING YOUR NUMBERS”

2. Ensuring all Nestle Staff in selected locations Check their Blood Pressure by Saturday 17th May. We encourage staff to check their blood pressure, record it and keep it. Random names may be mentioned and when they have and know their blood pressure, they will be given some form of incentive.
a. How much is Nestle prepared to invest here?

3. Training of Hypertension Peer Educators
a. Involves training selected staff in detail so that they can continuously influence their peers year round.
b. This mimics HIV/AIDS peer educator principle where people seem to appreciate the message better when it comes from their peers.

4. Hypertension Interdepartmental Quiz Competition
a. A lot of hypertension educational materials will be made available and we encourage departments to form teams to take part in this educational quiz. This system encourages continuous learning by all.
b. The quiz will follow a system whereby if a participant/team is unable to answer a question they will have lifelines to fall onto and these will be their team members.
c. How much is Nestle prepared to put out towards winners of the quiz?

5. Hypertension Branding – Posters and Daily educational tips on Hypertension
6. Optional – Taking part in our Corporate Health Walk on 24th May to round up activities of the Hypertension Awareness of our clients. Other corporate bodies will be available on the day to make the interactions rich.
