Accra, Sept. 29, GNA - The 10th edition of the Security Services Sports Association (SESSA) Games will come off from October 19-26 in Accra.
This year's event being hosted by the Ghana Armed Forces is under the theme "Enhancing closer unity through sports." A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel M'bawine Atintande, Chairman of the Publicity Committee copied to the GNA Sports said hundreds of sports men and women from the various security services are expected to participate in the event which is to serve as a platform to unearth talents for the various national teams. He said that the competing teams are the Ghana Armed Forces (hosts), Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service and the Customs, Excise and Preventive Services (CEPS).
Lt. Col. Atintande said the teams will be vying for honours in athletics, soccer, basketball, handball, volleyball, tug-of-war, table tennis, boxing and hockey while for the first time pole vault would be included in the athletics. The El-Wak Stadium, Nicholson Stadium- Burma Camp, 5 Garrison Assembly Hall, Prisons Sports Complex and the National Hockey Pitch are to be the main venues. The SESSA Games was formed in 1986 as a platform to facilitate cooperation and collaboration among security personnel and to enhance their fitness for their core duties. The Ghana Immigration Service hosted the last edition in 2005. The President, John Agyekum Kufuor, Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces is to be the Special Guest of Honour.
