165 Million Cedi Boxing Arena For Kaneshie Complex

Accra, (Greater Accra) 10 Nov.,

Mr. E. T. Mensah, Minister of Youth and Sports today hinted that a 165 million-cedi boxing arena is being constructed at the Kaneshie Sport Complex. The project whose construction started in August this year and will be completed by the end of the year is being financed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ghana boxing Authority (GBA). Mr. Mensah dropped the hint when three newly-crowned Ghanaian boxing champions -- Kofi Jantuah, Commonwealth welterweight, James Armah, African featherweight and Steve Doste, African bantamweight -- presented title belts they won two weeks ago at the Metro triple-do boxing tournament staged at the Accra Sports Stadium to him in Accra. Also present was Ablor Sowah (Jah man), African Super Bantamweight champion who scored on a fifth round technical knockout over Roland Igbafe of Nigeria on the same night. Mr. Mensah congratulated the boxers for making the nation proud and cautioned them not to be swollen headed. Many sportsmen and women never get to the top because of indiscipline, Mr. Mensah said and urged them to make discipline their watch word. Mr. Talal Fatal, Managing Director of Metro-TV, promoters of the fight said plans are far advanced with Home Box Office (HBO) based in the United States to feature either all or one of the three boxers in a world title bout in April next year. Present was Professor Patrick Addy, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports.
