Tamale Polytechnic won the 18th Annual Inter-Polytechnic games, which ended in Tamale on Saturday.
They bagged 21 gold, 13 silver and three bronze to emerge the over all winners. Cape Coast Polytechnic came second with six gold, four silver and 17 bronze while Koforidua had two gold to settle for the third position.
Sunyani Polytechnic was fifth with one gold, five silver and six bronze, followed by Kumasi Polytechnic with one gold four silver and three bronze.
Ho Polytechnic had one gold, three silver and one bronze, Accra Polytechnic one gold, two silver and two bronze and Takoradi Polytechnic was last with two silver and two bronze.
The games were nearly marred when Tamale Polytechnic was disqualified in the soccer semi-finals against Sunyani Polytechnic for fielding an unqualified player.
The Principal of Tamale Polytechnic, Professor Mahama Ibrahimah had to make several announcement on the local Radio Station appealing to supporters of Tamale Polytechnic to exercise restraint when it was remoured that they wanted to disrupt the final soccer match between Cape Coast and Accra Polytechnics.
In the final soccer match, Cape Coast Polytechnic beat the much fancied Accra Polytechnic 4-1 on penalty after goalless draw.
In the other disciplines, Tamale Polytechnic won both men and women volleyball trophies and the athletics men and women trophies as well.
Cape Coast Polytechnic, in addition to the soccer trophy, won the men and women table tennis trophies whilst Accra Polytechnic won the men's basketball trophy.
Abedi Eric of Cape Coast Polytechnic was voted the best footballer, Jerry Boateng of Koforidua Polytechnic was judged the best male athlete and Mariama Salifu of Tamale Polytechnic was the best female athlete.
Ho Polytechnic was adjudged the best well-behaved team.
