Two Ghanaian referees have been invited by the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) to participate in the Standard Fitness Test ahead of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Equatorial Guinea.

Referee Joseph Lamptey and Malik Seidu Salifu, who are both carrying badges of the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), will be participating in the test that will determine officials for the competition.

Retired referee Joseph Wellington is hopeful the Referees Appointment Committee for the 2015 AFCON will not overlook Ghanaian referees who have been invited for the standard fitness test.

The duo were at the center of affairs during two African Cup of Nations qualifiers for Algeria and Mali, Burkina Faso and Gabon.

Referee Lamptey, who is well known on the continent and is regarded as one of the best referees, missed out on the chance to officiate in the last edition of the AFCON.

“Lamptey and Seidu Salifu’s performance especially in the qualifiers was a delight. i have no doubt the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF), will consider them for their amazing work during the 2015 AFCON qualifiers.

“I think that personally we will get a representative in next year’s AFCON, because Seidu and Lamptey have been invited for the Standard fitness test and i’m sure they will be among the final referees that will be officiating next year,” he stated.

“They officiated Burkina and Gabon and Algeria-Mali games, they did very well, the standard of officiating has improved and I will not be surprised if they make it,” he stated.
