Former Asante Kotoko captain Yusif Chibsah has dubbed their 2004 CAF Confederation Cup defeat against bitter rivals Hearts of Oak as the “saddest moment” of his entire career.
The Porcupine Warriors were beaten by the Phobians 8-7 on penalties after the two legged finale ended in a 2-2 draw.
The result meant that Hearts of Oak went down in the history books as the first club to win the maiden edition of CAF’s second-tier competition.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with FootballMadeInGhana, the Ex-Ghana international revealed he is still hunted by that painful defeat till this day.
“It has been the saddest moment of my entire football career and there is nothing I can do to erase that memory. It was really painful and sad because in both legs we took the league and allowed Hearts back in the game” he said
“The most painful part was the fact that we lost on penalties in our own backyard, the Babayara Sports Stadium. I was indoors for about a week and couldn’t step out, just as we are now in the self quarantine
If you think about the promises that were made to us from the supporters to the board we had no reason losing that game but we fought well and in the end we were a bit unlucky”
