2012 Olympics: Ghana athletes for final tune-up competition

The Ghana Athletics Olympic team will have a final brush up before the Olympic Games when its athletes take part in a local athletics meet at the Brickfield Track and Field Oval in Plymouth, England on Sunday. The trio of Margaret Simpson, Ignisious Gaisah and Vida Anim have been putting final touches to their preparations at the University College Plymouth Marjon since arriving there on Tuesday, 10th July.
Athletics coaches, Leo Myles-Mills and Dr. Andrew Owusu have been supervising the training regimes of the three athletes with more focus on better execution of key technical aspects of their respective events.
Leo Myles-Mills, a former national sprinter, current 100m national record holder and coach at Brigham Young University, has been taking Vida Anim through her paces comprising of weight room and track routines.
Dr. Andrew Owusu, the former national long jump and current triple jump record holder, has been offering specialist training to long jumper Ignisious Gaisah and Margaret Simpson in the long jump event. Gaisah's current focus has been more on his run-up to the board with more emphasis on his first half of his run. Ahead of Sunday’s competition, Dr. Andrew Owusu told www.liquidsportsghana.com, that Gaisah's focus for this weekend is proper execution of key parts for his run up and last 2 strides (take-off) and not on distance covered in the pit. Owusu indicated that Gasiah will be coming off the current volume and intensity into a pre-games recovery mode around July 27th.
Anim and Gaisah competed at meets in Exeter and Crystal Palace respectively last week. The team departs Plymouth for the Olympic Games Village in London on Monday, 30th July, 2012.
