It is sad how the industrious work done the Presidential Commission of Inquiry chaired by His Lordship Justice Senyo Dzamefe has been thrown into the gutters by Ministers of Youth and Sports who have been appointed by President John Dramani Mahama after the exit of Elvis Afriyie Ankrah.
Some of us felt that the work of the PCI could have been given a little respect after they recommended that no supporters group must be sponsored by government to support the Black Stars in any event outside the country.
Ironically, Dr. Mustapha Ahmed and Hon. Nii Lante Vanderpuye have succeeded in making Ghanaians believe that the work of the PCI is next to thrash by going against their recommendations.
As Dr. Mustapha Ahmed was carrying money to pay Black Stars players winning bonuses in Rwanda, Hon. Nii Lante Vanderpuye was smuggling supporters to Mozambique to support the Black Stars, which are all against the recommendations of the PCI.
The intriguing question which requires strenuous intellectual wrestling to answer is the reputation of the Commissioners and the Commission itself.
Was it worth setting up?
Were the recommendations of the PCI necessary as government officials are continuously throwing it to the dogs?
Was it even necessary carrying supporters to Mozambique to support the Black Stars?
If it was necessary at all, how were they selected and how much was spent on them?
I think Ghanaians must quickly come to the realization that the setting up of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry has been questioned by the consistent acts of the two Sports Ministers who have come after Hon. Mahama Ayariga.
What was really the essence of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry and why have these ministers dragged its image into the gutters?
Is it not embarrassing to see a whole Sports Minister arrange for a chartered flight to take the Black Stars to Mozambique but does not know how the supporters got on board, yet he gives them per diem?
Are we too childish to disbelieve when the Travel and Tour agent, Ivan delayed the flight with the excuse that the Minister will reprimand him if they leave without the supporters?
If the PCI was not necessary, why was it set up?
If it was necessary, why is Honourable Nii Lante Vanderpuye still at post after perpetrating what was against their recommendations?
Let’s call a spade a spade.
Common sense even indicates that sending supporters to Mozambique to support the Black Stars was unnecessary and the Minister must be made to pay for every penny that was spent on the fans that were sent there by his outfit.
If this is what Hon. Nii Lante and his administration will do, then some of us have been vindicated by saying the PCI was unnecessary because Hon. Nii Lante and Dr. Mustapha Ahmed have confirmed our assertions by their acts.
