2014 World Cup: Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan enjoying pressure

Asamoah Gyan is excited leading a talented Ghana squad at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

The Al Ain superstar will captain the side to the tournament for the first time and is already relishing the opportunity to make history.

The 28-year-old has been in phenomenal scoring form for the Africans since he made his debut as a 17-year-old in 2003.

The former Sunderland man acknowledges the hype surrounding the squad back home and is keen to make a mark with the team.

“I am really getting excited ahead of the World Cup. The excitement around the squad is amazing,” he said

“We are looking forward to a good tournament and hopefully we can make our people happy and proud.

“We’ve got to still believe in ourselves that we can make it. We are training seriously and putting the paces together.

“It’s been fun so far, but the real work will start when we get to Brazil. We have a crop of talented players who are determined to make a name for themselves, and that’s good for team building.

“Of course there is pressure on all the participating teams, but we’re ready for it.

The Black Stars will play old foes USA and Germany as well as Portugal in group G.a
