2018 AWCON: Ghana coach admits to attacking deficiency in slim Algeria win

Ghana coach Bashir Hayford admits his team needs to improve on their attacking efficiency following the slim 1-0 win over Algeria on Saturday evening.

The Black Queens started their campaign on home soil with a deserved win courtesy a 20-yard strike from striker Gladys Amfobea.

Ghana should have recorded a more impressed scoreline having created a plethora of chances against their North African opponents.

A combination of poor finishing and heroic goalkeeping from Kahina Takenint saw all the chances created by the Black Queens – save the goal – spurned.

And coach Hayford admits this is an area he needs to work on ahead of subsequent games against Mali and Cameroon.

“We squandered a number of chances,” he said.

“We should have scored about five goals today so clearly this is an area we’ll be looking to improve.”

Ghana will next face Mali on Tuesday before wrapping up its group campaign against Cameroon.
