The Black Stars B of Ghana were held to a pulsating 2-2 draw by their Burkinabe counterparts in the first leg of the CHAN Qualifier at the Stade du 4 Aout in Ouagadougou on Saturday afternoon.
The total output of the Ghana side was exceptional despite the teams inability to train on Thursday ahead of their mandatory session at the match venue.
GHANAsoccernet.com brings you the ratings of the players after the splendid show in Ouagadougou.
Each player is rated out of 10.
Joseph Addo - 9
The Ghana goalie was superb on the day. He pulled two great saves in the first half and was above his weight in the second half. Despite conceding two goals, which were not through any fault of his, he managed to stop the Burkinabes when it mattered most.
Amos Frimpong – 6
The Kotoko skipper did not show signs of being new to the team. He played like a team player, supported the attack very well and wrestled with the strong Burkinabes. His crosses were spot on and he was impenetrable.
Daniel Darkwah – 4
Though the captain of the side, Darkwah did not show a lot of leadership. He was not fighting enough to lead as an example and was not moving up to support his attack. Despite suffering an injury that saw him forced out, he was not so impressive before his substitution.
Awal Mohammed – 4
Despite being one of the most experienced players in the team, Awal was not impressive in the game. He was slow with his tackles and always landed a late tackle, despite his height, he was losing most of the aerial balls to the Burkinabes. Had he played a little above his weight, Ghana could have carried the day.
Musah Nuhu - 8
Despite being inexperienced in the team and his first international competitive game, Musah Nuhu was better in defence. He was very good with the aerial balls as he took advantage of his height. He was the main man in defence for Ghana and the most reliable in the game. He stood between the Burkinabe attack and the Ghana goal.
Gideon Waja – 8
One of the stand out players of the team. He did not start well but settled in the game after 15 minutes. He was hard in his tackles and sat right in front of the defence to protect that. His partnership with Cobbinah was just admirable. His goal was sexy and the pass from Cobbinah, panty-less.
Patrick Razak – 7
Razak had a good day against the Burkina Faso side and was one reason why Abdoulaye Zongo was never comfortable in the game. He switched flanks wioth Gyamfi occasionally and his speed and skill were too strong for the Burkina side. He won the free kick that brought Ghana’s opening goal and many others which could have handed Ghana more goes if they had been executed well.
Winful Cobbinah – 8
Cobbinah could have been Ghana’s player of the match had it not been the heroics of Joseph Addo. His skill and intelligence forced the Burkina Faso defence to split on numerous occasions. He was smart, strong and his trademark – passes, were just spot on. Cobbinah has come of age. He must be complacent though.
Sadick Adams – 6
Sadick was not given a lot of room to operate as the Burkinabes kept a close eye on him. Despite his strength, he was bullied on numerous occasions. He was a bit wasteful as the clearest chance that fell to him was too easy for him to squander. Had he score, Ghana could have picked all three points.
Thomas Abbey – 4
The in-form Hearts of Oak skipper failed to glitter against Burkina Faso as he was missing in action. He however gave good passes and tackled very well on some few occasions. He was substituted in the second half.
Emmanuel Gyamfi – 6
Gyamfi was very smart on the flanks and caused the Burkinabe laterals a lot of troubles. His continuous inter-positional switches with Patrick Razak worked well for Ghana. His crosses were good and he drew back more to support defence occasionally
SUBS
Moro Ibrahim -4
Moro came from the bench to replace Daniel Darkwah who suffered an injury but was not bad on the day. He added a lot to the Ghana team moving forward but was slow in recovery. His passes were spot on and he was smart.
Isaac Twum – 5
Perhaps Twum should have started the game if only the system of play of the coaches could accommodate him from the start. He came on for Thomas Abbey. He was the main stabilizer of the Ghana team after going under huge pressure at the time the Burkinabes were trailing. Twum was a great addition to the Ghana side.
Farouk Mohammed – 3
Farouk came on for Emmanuel Gyamfi to strengthen the Ghana midfield at a time the Burkinabes were subjecting the Ghanaians to intense pressure. He fought in the midfield and added some energy to the team. He lasted for less than 15 minutes on the field.
