Ghana swimming sensation Abeiku Jackson has qualified to the semifinals of the men's 50m butterfly event at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics.
The 18-year-old finished second and clocked a new personal best with a time of 24.44 seconds. This reduces his time for the event by 0.14 seconds as his previous finishing time stood at 24.58 seconds.
Abeiku Jackson missed out on qualification to the semi-finals of the men’s 100m butterfly event, even after placing second in heat three of six with a new personal best of 54.52 seconds yesterday.
Jackson made history in 2016 as Ghana’s first male Olympic swimmer after competing in the 200 metres freestyle at the Summer Olympics.
But before making an appearance at the competition, he had already won 34 gold medals and one silver medal at various international swimming competitions.
He won two silver and two bronze in the 100m freestyle and fly and 50m freestyle and fly at this year’s All Africa Games held in Algeria.
He will now fight for a place in the finals after the semi-final event at tonight at 2140GMT.
