2019 AFCON: Osei Kofi insists Gyan’s inclusion in Ghana squad ‘non-negotiable’

Former Black Stars player Osei Kofi insists Asamoah Gyan’s inclusion in Ghana squad for the 2019 AFCON in Egypt is non-negotiable despite his recent woes.

At club level, his injury worries, coupled with a loss of form, have restricted him to substitute appearances, 10 in all, and scoring one goal for Turkish outfit Kayserispor in the Super Lig this season.

However Osei Kofi insists Gyan who is Ghana's all-time top scorer and most capped player with 51 goals in 106 internationals, remains a key player for Kwesi Appiah’s outfit, who have set their sights on ending a 37-year trophy drought at the June 21 – July 19 tournament.

“If Gyan is not injured, which of our current other strikers surpasses him?” Osei, joint-top scorer at the 1965 Afcon, told Goal in an exclusive interview.

“He may have scored just one league goal this season, but if he’s not injured, he’s better than most of our strikers.

“Which of our current strikers can we compare to him now? Europe is different from Africa.”
