Asante Kotoko’s familiar 1-0 winning formula returned on Sunday afternoon as they secured a narrow victory over Basake Holy Stars at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Samuel Tenedu’s deflected strike in the 14th minute proved to be the difference, securing Kotoko their third consecutive win and extending their unbeaten run to four matches. The Porcupine Warriors are now one point clear at the summit, benefiting from Bibiani Gold Stars’ failure to win at home against Hearts of Oak.
Kotoko controlled proceedings for most of the match, enjoying 52 percent possession and creating multiple attacking opportunities. Despite their dominance, they struggled to add to their tally, continuing a trend of narrow wins that has defined much of their campaign.
Basake Holy Stars, on the other hand, found it difficult to threaten Kotoko’s defence and remain in danger of slipping into the relegation zone.
With momentum on their side, Kotoko will turn their attention to their next home fixture against Berekum Chelsea, where they will aim to strengthen their hold on the league’s top spot. Basake Holy Stars, meanwhile, must regroup quickly as they battle to avoid the drop.
