Ecstatic Ghanaian fans openly relished the dream of traveling to the United States for the 2026 World Cup after the Ghana's victory over the Central African Republic at home in the ongoing qualification series.
The Black Stars came from behind to beat the Central African Republic 4-3 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Monday, June 10, 2024.
Jordan Ayew's hat-trick and Fatawu Issahaku's goal were enough to snatch the maximum points for Ghana in the game after what was a sloppy first-half from Otto Addo's charges.
After the referee ended the game after tensed final minutes, elated Ghanaian football fans who took over the pitch in celebration could not help but express delight over the prospects of travelling for the tournament to be hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
"USA! USA!! USA!!" was the main chant by the happy fans.
Meanwhile, Black Stars coach, Otto Addo, has emphasized his awareness of what qualification to the global showpiece means to Ghanaian fans.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of the game against the Central African Republic, the gaffer, when asked whether the team is aware of Ghanaian fans relishing the travelling opportunity that comes with their qualification, said, "Ghanaians should know that there are a lot of job opportunities in Qatar as well. Surely we want to qualify and go to the World Cup. Other countries want to qualify too, but our players understand this (the socio-economic significance of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup) and they're fighting for their spots. Sometimes it gets so competitive we have to calm them down in training," the coach added.
With the win over CAR, Ghana now leads Group I, having secured nine points from four games.
