39th SWAG AWARDS launch on Friday April 25

The launch for the 39th SWAG AWARDS GALA NIGHT has been scheduled for Friday April 25, 2014 at the Media Center of the Accra Sports Stadium.

According to former President and now most active Patron of the Association, Nana Oheneba Charles, the date for the launch was specially picked and prayed that this year’s Awards Night which would be graced by the Brazilian Ambassador in Ghana, Her Excellency Irene Vida Gala would be most exciting.

He said the SWAG Awards which is the oldest and still running platform for the recognition of outstanding sports personalities must attract huge sponsorship from corporate Ghana and he called on all organisations and individuals who aspire to the growth of Ghana Sports to contribute towards the event.

Oheneba Charles, a veteran sports journalist who owned the Sporting News and Sports World Newspapers hinted that the SWAG Awards is cherished by all sports people and every body looks out for the best perfomers in the various sporting disciplines.

The main event is slated for the Banquet Hall of the State House in Accra on Saturday May 17, 2014, with the flagship award being contested between weightlifter Juliana Arkoh, Footballer Asamoah Gyan and Coach James Kwesi Appiah.

The most popular Award which is the Footballer of the Year is to be judged between Asamoah Gyan, Kwadwo Asamoah and Sulley Muntari.

A number of distinguished sports personalities including Kennedy Agyapong of Kenpong Travel and Tours, cyclist Samuel Anim, boxer Allotey, Ben Nunoo Mensah, chairman of the Ghana Weightlifting Association will be recognized for their contribution to the development and promotion of sports in Ghana.
