The Sports Writers Association of Ghana has settled on Saturday, May 11, 2019 as the day it will hold the 44th edition of the annual SWAG Awards. This was made known by the President of the Association, Kwabena Yeboah at a brief launching ceremony held at the headquarters of MTN Ghana.
Kwabena Yeboah announced that 34 sports personalities and 11 sports organizations have been nominated for the award ceremony which will be held at the Accra International Conference Centre in Accra.
He expressed optimism that this year’s edition will be the ‘best’ in the history of the awards and praised headline sponsors MTN Ghana for their continued support to the association.
The veteran journalist also commended sports journalists for their roles in promoting sports activities in the country and charged them to do more to take Ghana sports to the next level.
“It will once again be a glorious night of pride and history for our sport men and women who have excelled in 2018 as well as institutions that have contributed to the development and promotion of sports in the country. And as has been the tradition we’ve always delivered classy event year after year. May 11 hopefully will not be different. We shall do our best to give our patrons, stakeholders and sponsors the best of the night and a memorable one”, he said
Speaking on behalf of his company, the Corporate Service Executive of MTN Ghana, Samuel Koranteng in a short address asserted that the telecommunications company believe in the current leadership of SWAG and will not renege on their promise they made to the association.
He intimated that MTN have the development of Ghana sports at heart and would partner relevant bodies to grow the country’s sports.
“SWAG has proved to be a good friend of the MTN brand. We have become partners and collaborated in various forms in aid of the development of sports in Ghana. Today’s event is yet another step that speaks to the commitment of MTN and SWAG to the development of sports in the country.
"For more than 40 years SWAG has been consistent with a course to recognize the finest sports talents in Ghana and challenge others to aspire to greater heights, we commend SWAG for this consistency and urge them to forge on relentlessly in helping to develop sports in Ghana despite the challenges they face".
