A minute's silence to commemorate May 9

Accra, May 6, GNA- A minute's silence would be observed in honour of the victims of May 9 stadium disaster when the GT Premiership enters the fifth week at all the league centres on Sunday, May 8.

A statement signed by Mr. Hamah Hamid Issakah, Public Relations Officer of the National Sports Council (NSC) copied to the GNA Sports said the directive is aimed at remembering the 127 fans that perished in the disaster four seasons ago.

He said it was the prayer of the NSC, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Education and Sports that the departed souls shall forever remain in the arms of the Lord until eternity.

127 soccer fans lost their lives in the disaster after a mid-week league encounter between Accra Hearts of Oaks and Kumasi Asante Kotoko had turned violent.

Kotoko supporters ribbed off and hurled plastic chairs at the May 9 Stand, formerly the Ade Coker Stand unto the tartan tracks in protest of a supposed bias officiating which they claimed aided Hearts to fight back from a goal to win the game 2-1. 06 May 05
