AAG: Ghana increases haul to nine

Algiers, July 15, GNA - Ghana's handisport team won four more medals on the final day of the disabled sports competition in Algiers to raise the total to nine medals.

The team's technical director, Mr Samuel Armstrong Aidoo, described the achievement as "remarkable."

Anita Fordjour set the pace with a silver medal in the 200m T54 event, beating compatriot Ajara Mohammed to third place. Nigeria won the gold.

In the male category, Nkegbe Botsoyo won a bronze in the 200m T54 category and Patrick Obeng completed the haul with a bronze in the 5,000 T54 classification.

Mr Aidoo praised his athletes for delivering the medals to Ghana in the Golden Jubilee year and pledged they would work harder to achieve more laurels for the country.

He said he looked forward to the day when he would lead the athletes to present the medals to President John Agyekum Kufuor. Patrick Obeng thanked the Chief Executive of the National Sports Council, Mr Prince Oduro Mensah, for supporting them during their preparations and appealed to the ministry to continue providing them with their needs to encourage others to take to sports. "The ministry and the NSC with the support from Mr Aidoo enabled us to get this far," he said
