Black Stars defender Johnathan Mensah has told Sportscrusader.com that he and his colleagues have vowed to put up a good showing at the 2015 African Cup of Nations in order to win back the support of Ghanaians after the Brazil debacle.
The Black Stars after their abysmal performance at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, received several backlashing from football loving Ghanaians; an action that was evident in their first home game in the 2015 AFCON qualifier against Uganda, where the fans virtually abandoned the game.
The Stars managed to pick up themselves from the disappointment of the Brazil tournament and managed to qualify to the Nations Cup 2015, but for Jonathan, they still miss the total support that they hitherto enjoyed especially when playing at home.
The France-based Jonathan Mensah has, therefore, stressed that only a good performance at Equatorial Guinea will win back the total support of the fans.
“We are leaving on Sunday to prepare for the tournament, but I can tell you that the feeling and support from the fans is very different to what we witnessed before the World Cup. They are gradually coming back in terms of the support for us, but it’s not total and we as players can feel it”, Jonathan Mensah mentioned in an interview with sportscrusader.com.
“But it will come eventually, but most of the hard work must come from us the players. And if we can redeem ourselves at the tournament, the support will take a natural flow like it used to. I still stand the fact that 2015 AFCON is our chance for redemption.”
