The Pharaohs of Egypt has brushed aside the Cranes of Uganda by beating them 2-0 at the Cairo International Stadium to emerge as winners of Group A of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The host nation who has been impressive from the start of the continental showpiece made it three wins out of three matches with another fine display on Sunday evening.

Uganda started the game quite well and looked like the fancied side to get on the scoresheet. They were however thwarted in their strides by Egypt goalkeeper Mohammed El Shenawy on all occasions.

They later allowed their opponent to get into the game and were punished for their inefficiency in front of goal.

Liverpool Star and fans favorite Mohamed Salah brilliantly converted his free-kick from just outside the 18-yard box after he was brought down by Hassan Wasswa.

Ten minutes later, defender Ahmed Elmohamady latched onto a loose ball in Uganda’s penalty area and smashed an unstoppable shot into the back of the net with the help of a wicked deflection.

The second half could not produce any more goals despite some end to end action from both sides.

Egypt qualifies into the knockout stage having maintained a 100% record to top their group. Uganda who comes in 2nd on the standings with 4 points has also advanced into the last 16.
