A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), wants President Akufo-Addo to create a "Ministry of Common Sense" to check the character and conduct of his appointees.
Kojo Danquah, who is a member of the Communications Team of the opposition party, made this comment while discussing the budget for AFCON 2019 which was read by Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah, in Parliament earlier this week.
Mr. Danquah asked the government “how can Ghana’s budget exceed that of the whole winning price for the tournament?".
The Sports Minister on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday revealed that the Ministry spent a whopping $4.5 million on the AFCON 2019.
Reacting to the issue on Adom FM's "Dwaso Nsem", the NDC Communicator requested the President to heed his call for the creation of a Common Sense Ministry saying "we need a Ministry of Common Sense to learn sense from that Ministry because we are not making sense in this country at all… how can Ghana’s budget exceed that of FIFA’s own because $4.5 million was budgeted for winning the cup and we that didn’t know whether we will win the cup or not budgeted for $6.5million…We don’t learn in this country…When Hon. Asiamah was in opposition, he used to speak in the interest of Ghanaians concerning Sports issues but it seems the table has now turned"
"Are we sensible at all"? he questioned.
He further said; "Imagine Uganda that qualifies to the final stage spent only $1 million…The winning champions Algeria were not given any bonus at the group stage until 1/16 stage before given bonus even though they never lost in their group stages…All I'm trying to say is Algeria who has won the AFCON before never used money as a factor for motivation, so we should not reduce the AFCON into money making machine".
