The Black Queens of Ghana suffered a shocking 2-1 defeat to Mali in their second group A game of the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament on Tuesday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Ghana was seeking a second straight win to become the first team to reach the semi-finals but that couldn’t materialize as Mali, who lost their first game to Cameroon, put up a brave performance to claim a famous victory at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Mali opened the scoring in the 22nd minute after they were awarded a penalty.
Striker Bassira Toure took on the spot kick and converted easily.
The Queens restored parity in the 75th minute also from a penalty converted by captain Elizabeth Addo.
But Mali never dropped their heads and maintained the pressure on the hosts before regaining the lead in the 75th minute courtesy of a goalkeeping howler.
