Ghana legend Abedi Pele is calling for amendments to the statutes of CAF in limiting elections of the President to only members of the Executive Committee.

The current rules pertaining the election of the President of CAF requires that candidates eligible to stand for the position must come from its Executive Committee.

But Abedi Pele feels this limitation should be taken off to give others in good standing the chance to vie for the position.

“Rules are made to be respected. We all respect those rules but we also believe that one day those rules will be amended with different issues,” Abedi Pele told Accra based Starr FM.

“For now, there is time and I believe that what Hayatou has done in African football is good.

“He has done great things and we have to acknowledge that.”

Abedi Pele expressed interest to run for the CAF Presidency back in 2004 but later decided against contesting Issa Hayatou.

The rules of CAF then did not restrict the candidature for the CAF Presidency to the Executive Committee members.

This limitation was however installed a few years later.
