Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah says he has no qualms against his former team-mate Abedi Ayew ‘Pele’.
There is a standoff between the Ayew family and the Black Stars management team with Abedi stating that coach Appiah has disappointed him.
“Everybody there is a friend. Kwesi Appiah, I have played with him but if you have a friend who has disappointed you, what do you do?” Pele stated in a radio interview.
His sons – Andre and Jordan Ayew – have temporarily excused themselves from the national team, but Appiah has refused to engage his former captain in an open confrontation.
He said his priority now is the 2014 World Cup qualifying game against Sudan.
“I’m surprised to hear those words came from him [Abedi] but we should be focus on the game against Sudan,” Appiah told Accra-based Happy FM.
“I have no problems with Abedi Pele. I went to his house three times last year. I go to his office, we have a chat and then I leave for my house.”
He added: “Even when I was in London, I was calling him and so as far as I’m concerned there is no problem between us. We’re seriously preparing for the game against Sudan and that’s where the focus should be.”
