Derek Abrefa, has been adjudged the Most Valuable Player in Table Tennis, by the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA).
Abrefa, after an impressive display in this year's Stanbic National Table Tennis League toppled his counterpart across the region to win the ultimate prize.
In an interview with GNA Sports after the awards ceremony last Saturday, Abrefa who has represented Ghana at three Commonwealth Games, was delighted with his outing in the five-month tournament.
He said, "being recognized as the winner and most valuable player for the 2018 season is a great accomplishment for me.
"This is the second time I have received such a prestigious award and I am happy that the GTTA, through the help of Ministry of Youth and Sports, once again recognized our efforts,'' Abrefa said.
He said some individuals who have aslo aided his progress as a table tennis player and expressed appreciation to them.
"I didn't come this far alone, but by the efforts and sacrifices of many. I would thank the Director of Sports of Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Samuel Ayer for being there for me throughout the year as well the GTTA.
"I would also thank my manager Charles Tachie-Manson, my coach, Ebenezer Anang White, and my national team mates for supporting me from beginning of the season till now," Abrefa said.
Abrefa added that, he was already relishing qualification to Tokyo as he prepare for the qualifiers, which begins next year.
Abrefa with his performance has now moved up to ninth on the Africa rankings and 232th in the world.
