Cape Coast, Oct. 7, GNA - The Abura Muslim community in the Cape Coast Metropolis emerged winners of this year's Eid-ul-Fitr Gala soccer competition held at the Robert Mensah stadium, Cape Coast at the week end. Abura beat the Wangara community 5-4 in the final match and were presented with a trophy, GH¢30.00, and two crates of soft drinks as their prize, while the runners up received GH¢20.00 and one crate of soft drinks.
The gala competition was organised by the Cape Coast Muslim Youth Association to climax activities marking the celebration of the Ramadan fasting festival.
12 communities in the Cape Coast Metropolis took part in the competition, which was sponsored by the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly, Regional Coordinating Council, Zongo Chiefs and Messiah Enterprise, a private entrepreneur.
In the preliminary matches, Abura beat Adisadel community 2-0 and pipped Essuekyir community 1-0 on their way to the finals, while the Wangara community also beat Staff Quarters community 2-0 and also beat Kotokuraba community 5-3 to qualify for the finals. Mohammed Muntara Yahaya, Chairman of the Muslim Youth Association commended the communities for their sportsmanship and advised them to be law abiding and not to allow politicians to use them to cause chaos during the electioneering campaigns, to bring their reputation into disrepute.
