Accam sends Helsingborg to Swedish Cup final

Ghana forward David Accam scored a classy stoppage-time finish to send Helsingborg IF to the final of the Swedish FA Cup as they defeated Swedish Champions Malmo FF on Thursday afternoon.

The 23-year-old hit-man who has carried the Reds throughout the competition grabbed his sixth goal of the campaign in grand fashion as he sensationally found the net with a trademark finish.

Helsingborg’s current form in the Allsvenskan meant the odds did not favour them for a victory over the reigning Swedish lords but a two moments of brilliance inspired by the Ghanaian ensured they reached the final and set a date with Elfsborg who also recorded a 4-1 victory.

A neat sequence of play involving Accam found Swedish youngster Abdul Khalili in space and he finished off with the half-hour mark approaching.

Khalili’s first 29th minute effort could not confirm victory for Helsingborg with their bad defensive record this season until stoppage-time when Accam handed them a spot in the grand final with a fabulous finish.

The versatile forward picked the ball with relish and gleefully went through the Malmo defence, beating five players on a role before firing the ball in between the legs of the Malmo keeper to seal the game for Helsingborg.

Before reaching the semis, Accam had bagged 5 goals in the competition and his strike on Thursday has taken his total in the early season to 10 goals in 12 games.
