The Accra Sports Stadium is currently undergoing a major face lift for the first time in almost a decade. The stadium which was renovated for the CAN 2008 tournament was left in a deplorable state and was described by many as a risk zone due to its dilapidated nature.

Renovation works at the stadium began in February this year, but there are fears it may not be completed on time for the Women’s AFCON which is just four months away, with government pumping about Gh¢12.5 million for the first phase of rehabilitation, the facility is expected to be reshaped into a modern spots center.

The renovation works on the stadium is expected to be completed this month to host the Africa Women’s Championship which will see the edifice as one of the venues.

Project Manager in charge of the Accra sports stadium renovation, Chris Aviah, is confident the project will be completed in time to host the Women’s AFCON later this year.

According to the Structural Engineer for the renovation works Mr. Bediako, works on the structural renovation are almost completed, he assured that they are ready for the AFCON Women's championship tournament. "By October ending we're giving it to you and we're hundred percent sure, i have repeated this several times..."
