Director General of the National Sports Authority, Joe Kpenge, has said the authority is doing all it can to restore power to the Accra Sports stadium.
The stadium has been without power for over two weeks over a debt owed the country’s power distribution company – Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
According to Mr Kpenge, the authority has already made some payments to ECG but that amount is deemed not enough by the power distributors.
“We are doing the best we can, we don’t have funds. Even the money that we have generated in the past few days amounting to GHS50,000 have been paid to the ECG but power has still not been restored because they claimed it wasn’t enough”, he told Class Sports.
Mr Kpenge debunked assertions that personnel of various offices at the facility are not working due to the power cut. According to him, they are working despite the situation.
“I will not put it that we don’t work because we are really working despite the situation. The case is that a few of the staff come out after some hours for some fresh air, before getting back to continue with their work. So there’s no iota of truth in that story”.
