Accra sports stadium is a death trap – Futah

Aziz Haruna Futah, President of Nationwide Supporters Union (NSU), has described the Accra Sports Stadium, as a death trap following the recent dilapidating nature of the national stadium.

Haruna Futah, who appeared before the Justice Senyo Dzamefe Presidential Commission of Inquiry on Tuesday said the stadium is fast collapsing and will soon bring a national calamity, if care is not taken.

“My Lord just go round the Accra Sports Stadium now, and you will see how weak the stadium has become.

“It has become a death trap and most of us are in great danger, because this is where we come every day.

“We don’t go anywhere apart from the Accra Sports Stadium and it’s time authorities took steps to address that,” he stated.

Moses Foh-Amoaning a member of the Commission commended Futah for his submission saying “it is the most significant statement today”.

Haruna Futah, however, disagreed with suggestions that, government should stop sponsoring fans to competitions, adding that, fans are integral part of the game.

According to Mr. Futah, there are genuine supporters and must identified and sponsored to competitions and not tourists.

“I don’t think it’s a bad idea to sponsor supporters to competitions because it is once in two years or once in four years.

“We have been taking care of our activities over the years, it is only when there are competitions that government comes in. So I disagree with those who speaking against sponsoring supporters to competitions,” he said.
