A two-day high profile golf tournament between Achimota Golf Club and their counterparts from the I.B.B Country Club of Abuja,Nigeria,comes off this weekend at the Achimota Golf Course.
The tournament forms part of Ghana's Independence anniversary celebrations and will have Education and Sports Minister,Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo,and the Minister of Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital City Mr Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, as special guests.
The maiden encounter of the deal initiated by the captains of the two clubs was held in Abuja last October to commemorate Nigeria's Independence Day.
A 48-man contingent of 39 men and nine ladies from Abuja is expected in Accra today for the expected tough competition,which host captain, Mr Sammy Adetola, has promised to win on account of the strength of his side and the course advantage they enjoy.
The competition tees off tomorrow with a "Foursome Better Ball" strong play, with an all-play-all singles closing the programme on Sunday.
However,host captain Adetola says some members of the visiting Abuja team have expressed interest in joining their Achimota counterparts in a special wrap-up event.
In the strong Abuja team are David Mark, who has played on virtually every golf course in Ghana, Edet Michael with handicap zero, S.O. Sanya (H.6) T. Azogu (H.8), O. Bello (H.10), B. Biradi with the best Handicap of 13 in the ladies section, A. Yaduma (H.19),N Mamven (H.20) and Umoe (H 25) among the nine ladies golfers.
Achimota Club is yet to name its team as a result of for the extraordinary interest shown by members.However,the host team is certain to include the likes of Albert Brock, M.O. Aggrey, David Atuwo,P.Amenyo,M.Ababio,David Arkutu, S.D.Odame,I.Quarshie.
Indomitable lady, Mona Captan is expected to lead a host of compatriots like Francesca Vandyke, Y.K. Safo Debra, Clara Price, Bea Hampton,Margaret Anderson and others.
Sunday's prize-giving event is expected to attract a host of golf faithfuls and high profile captains from various clubs,particularly Tema,Celebrity,Bok Nam Kim Clubs and others from Kumasi.
