Adama Mensah vows to win titles

Accra, April 12, GNA - Adama Mensah, former African Boxing Union heavyweight champion said his resolve to come out of retirement stems from the fact that the division had failed to produce a worthy continental champion in the last decade or so.

Speaking to the GNA Sports, on Tuesday, the 47 year-old retired Prisons Officer said he had what it takes to beat "all the chaps in the division on the continent and in the Commonwealth" and vowed to win titles for himself and Ghana in the next few months.

The former champion said he was disappointed at the low level of competition and the lack of commitment from the boxers who parade themselves as the forerunners in the division and promised to "whip them one after the other" to reclaim the titles.

Adama said he decided to return to the ring about six months ago and had been training secretly to regain his fitness, adding that his punching power at the moment was not different from what it was when he chalked victory after victory via the short route.

He said he would knock out his Nigerian opponent on April 29 on the maiden bill of Sole Mio (My Sunshine) Promotion Syndicate to prove to Ghanaians that his resolve to become champion again was no joke.

"I shall be so ferocious that people will wonder if I had ever retired, the boxer said."

He called on his fans to launder their vests and handkerchiefs and turn out in their numbers to cheer him on to victory.
